Why do you use Cosmedic Supplies Products?
I source most of my SPMU products from Cosmedic Supplies for several reasons. Firstly, their products are of the highest quality. Secondly, they are totally affordable.
Cosmedic Supplies’ machinery and accessories create outstanding results; however, they also look super stylish and sleek on display.
Cosmedic Supplies sell a wide variety of products to suit every SPMU need; from practice skins to micropigmentation machines, Cosmedic Supplies stocks everything I need to run a successful business.
My orders always arrive on time and the customer service is always friendly and personal.
Machine used and favourite needle?
The machines I use are the Brow Pen and the Lite Pad. The Brow Pad is small and robust, perfect for mobile practitioners. It is also super powerful and helps me to create consistently beautiful results.
The Lite Pad is an amazing piece of machinery; it really helps me to develop and perfect my technique. The handpiece is super lightweight which is helpful when I am treating back to back clients. The Lite Pad also has several different settings that allow me to create more detailed results.
I enjoy working with the 1 liner needle and the 3round needle; they both hold and release the perfect amount of pigment.
How did you build your client list?
When I first established Hushh by Harley, I was still working at my previous job. I worked long hours at both jobs so that I could eventually become self-employed. It was tough at the time, but my hard work paid off!
I put one hundred percent of my effort into creating beautiful PMU results and building my reputation as a quality artist. Once people heard about the results I was creating, my client base grew quickly.
I believe that, if you are passionate about what you do and put in the hard work, the results speak for themselves.
I always create bespoke treatment plans for each individual client. If a client walks away satisfied with the service, they are more likely to tell others about my work. Word of mouth is my favourite, and most successful, form of advertisement.
Advice for a tech just starting out?
My advice for any new tech would be to study hard, practice a lot and to never give up. It is easy to compare yourself to other artists and to think that their work is of a better standard than yours. But if you are willing to put in the effort, you can become one of the best in the business!
Practice makes perfect in the PMU industry. The more you practice, the quicker you will find your own style and rhythm, and perfect your technique.
Always remember why you started, and never give up.
How long have you been in the industry?
I have worked within the beauty industry for seven years and have specialised in PMU for two. I still consider myself as a newbie in the PMU industry; I am constantly working on my technique and trying to perfect my artistry. There is always more to learn in the world of PMU! I love this aspect of the beauty industry as it helps to keep your work fresh and exciting.
What is your goal for this year?
For me, this year is all about improvement and growth. Rather then training in anything new I want to focus on refreshing my knowledge in my current treatments. This will include attending Masterclasses, reviewing my old training manuals, and practicing on latex skins. This year is about perfecting my technique and precision.
Why did you choose the name Hushh by Harley for the business?
Before I trained in PMU, I specialised in Massage and Facials. These treatments are really focused on relaxation, so I wanted my business name to reflect a sense of serenity and peace. That is how I came up with the name ‘Hushh’.
I also wanted to incorporate my own name into my business to create that personal touch I am always striving to achieve. I loved the idea of my business almost sounding like a book written by me. To me, ‘Hushh by Harley’ suggests a haven of relaxation, warmth, and Harley goodness.
Whilst my business has naturally moved away from massages and facials and has become more focused on lashes and brows, I decided to keep the name as my focus is still centred on making my clients feel calm and relaxed during a treatment.
Where are you based?
I am based in Horley, Surrey which is a five-minute drive from Gatwick Airport. I am close to the motorway and trainline so finding me is super easy!
Where did you train?
I first trained in Ombre Brows with the amazing GgBrows. I investigated a lot of different training options before contacting Georgie. Despite the vast number of courses to choose from, Georgie’s results were always my favourite.
I actually got my own eyebrows done with Georgie which is one of the best decisions I have ever made! Georgie gave me my dream pair of eyebrows and inspired me to do the same for hundreds of other women.
Georgie is an incredible technician, trainer, and mentor. She is incredibly thorough in all her work and continues to inspire me every day. She offers ongoing support for her students; I can attend as many shadow days as I want, and she is always only a phone call away if I ever have any questions. With Georgie as my mentor, I can continue to grow as an artist and progress successfully in my PMU journey.
How do you achieve a healthy work/life balance?
I must admit, I still have not perfected the work/life balance!
It is easy to get carried away with your bookings when you have a lot of clients hoping to be seen. However, over the years I have learnt that I am much more productive when I reserve time for business and personal admin.
Giving yourself a break from clients is really important. Running a beauty business does not just involve practical treatments! There are also a lot of other factors involved in building a successful business and a happy personal life.
One of the best things about being self-employed is having the freedom to control your time. Do not take this for granted and always find time to do things for yourself. The more time you put into personal development, the healthier your business will be and the happier you will feel.
