Why do you use Cosmedic Supplies?

I use Cosmedic Supplies products as they are extremely high quality and help me to create outstanding results. They are also very reasonably priced. By using Comsedic Supplies’ machinery and needles, I can take my work to the next level and produce detailed, technical, and perfect-looking results.

What is your favourite machine and needle?

The machine I use is the Lite Pad. I love this piece of equipment as the handpiece is super lightweight and therefore really easy to work with. The retention I get from using the Lite Pad is amazing.

My favourite needle is the 1R Liner 0.3; I find that this needle helps me to achieve realistic hair strokes and, if used for shading, can create a beautifully fluffy and powdered look.

What are your tips for photos for social media?

My best piece of advice for creating an eye-catching picture would be to use a ring light. Place the ring light in the brightest part of the room and angle it just above the client’s face. Ask your client to open their eyes and look upwards, slightly away from the camera. This always makes your results look so lovely and natural!

How did you build your client list?

For me, the most successful form of advertising is through word of mouth. When my clients show others their results, I get a lot of bookings. Social media is also one of the main ways I market my business, especially Instagram. I upload photos of my work onto social media platforms which allows prospective clients to see that I am a quality PMU artist they can trust.

How long have you been in the industry?

I first entered the beauty industry in 2008. After completing my college course in beauty therapy, I qualified in many other areas including spray tanning, false lashes, and gel nails. In 2014, I completed my semi-permanent makeup training.

What advice would you give to new PMU technicians?

My best advice for anybody entering the PMU industry is to not give up! It is a hard craft to master and can take a lot of time and effort until you feel totally confident in your abilities.

Believe in yourself and your skills. If you put in the work, you will gain confidence as a technician and you will soon be able to create really beautiful results.

Why did you choose the beauty industry?

I chose the beauty industry as, from a young age, I knew I needed to pursue a creative career. From the moment I began my beauty training, I knew I would be apart of this industry for the rest of my life!

Throughout my entire beauty career, I have loved creating stunning eyebrows. That is why I decided to specialise in PMU. Starting my PMU journey is by far the best decision I have ever made!

How long did it take to grow your business?

I trained in semi-permanent makeup whilst still working at a beauty salon. When I first started my PMU business, I was only working evenings. However, after the first year, I was so busy I had to quit my full-time job. Making the leap to self-employment was not easy but, for me, it is absolutely the best way to work!

Within the first five months of working on my own, I was fully booked six days a week and had a six-week waiting list. With so many clients, I decided to build my own salon to keep up with demand.

How do you balance your personal and work life?

Finding a work life/balance is so important and something I had to learn the hard way. During the first few years of running my own business, I definitely neglected my personal wellbeing. I did not establish any set working days or hours, instead I used to fit myself around my clients lives. This often meant I was working twelve hours a day during most of the week.

After a few years of working like this, I knew something had to change. I established set working days and hours and started to turn my phone off after work so that I could switch off and enjoy my own time.

I now make sure I have the time to do the things I love in life. Looking after yourself is not only important for yourself but for your business
